Three area softball teams will compete for a state title this weekend in Aurora after successful runs in their respective regional tournaments.

CHSAA released seeding for the softball state championships Monday morning with Discovery Canyon, Sierra and Pine Creek each clinching berths in the tournament.

State contests begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Aurora Sports Park -- Complex C for 4A games and Complex A for 3A.

Pine Creek, the No. 16 seed, faces No. 1 seed Holy Family, which won the title in 2021 and earned runner-up in 2022.

The Eagles won 8 of their final 10 games and outscored their opponents 113-76 in those matchups.

Discovery Canyon, which earned the five seed, battles Greeley West with a chance for the Thunder to advance to their first quarterfinals since 2017.

After finishing 13-13 in 2022, the Thunder has a 20-5 record, which equals their most victories since 2014 when they finished 20-3 and lost in the quarterfinals.

In Class 3A, Sierra’s first state softball appearance since 2002, starts at 12:15 p.m. as the eighth-seeded Stallions face No. 9 Sterling.

The Stallions have increased their win total every season since 2019 and look for their first state playoff victory since 2002.
