The Mustangs of Manitou Springs proved the dominant school in a battle of equine mascots as both the boys and girls teams triumphed over the Stallions Banning Lewis Prep on Thursday.

It was a great night for Manitou Springs, but a special night for senior Grace Allen who completed her triple crown run of in-game records.

Allen broke the record for steals in a single game with 16 against Alamosa earlier in the year. She tied the record for most rebounds in a game Tuesday against Vanguard with 19. And she broke the in-game scoring record Thursday with a team leading 35 points in Manitou's 65-34 victory over Banning Lewis.

She also set the single-season record for steals in a season by getting to 97, she currently has 110 steals on the year.

It's quite the return for Allen who missed all of last year recovering from a torn ACL. Tragedy struck her family as her, and both her brothers, suffered the same injury within a four-month span.

"We did it within like four months of each other," Allen said. "Caleb and I both came back, we both got cleared to play again but then he re-tore (his ACL). So then I stopped playing because I didn't want to re-tear it. So the whole thing with my whole family going through it made it even harder but it made it more rewarding to come back and have this successful of a season."

It was big win for the team as well. Manitou was on a three-game losing streak entering the match, having fallen to Vanguard, St. Mary's and Ellicott, all league opponents.

"I believe we're better all around than some of the teams that we've played," coach Juliana Argyle said. "We just don't always come out with that confidence that we need. And then hopefully this is that game that just pushes us over that edge and gives us that boost to finish our season strong."

Manitou's boys team entered Thursday night from another perspective, on a two-game win streak as part of a successful season. Thursday's win moved the Mustangs to 11-4 overall with a 6-2 record in the Tri-Peaks League.

The Stallions showed fight after being down in the first quarter 13-7. But senior guard Lairden Rogge shut down any hope of a comeback early in the second quarter. Rogge hit a pair of 3-pointers to start and then converted a 3-point- play. He finished with a team-high 29 points in Manitou's 70-48 rout of Banning Lewis.

It's a last hurrah for Rogge and four other seniors who have been together since eighth grade. It gives him goosebumps.

"It's just a super cool emotional thing for all of us," he said. "We're like brothers to each other. It's super awesome and cool."
