BOYS' BASKETBALL

Krapcha leaves Doherty to take over program at 5A state-champion Eaglecrest

After three seasons at Doherty, a 56-19 combined record and trips to the 5A playoffs each time, coach Jarris Krapcha decided Monday to take what he calls a "top five job in the state" in Eaglecrest, the Denver Post reported.

The Raptors recently won the 5A state boys' basketball crown, their second among five semifinal runs in 16 seasons under coach John Olander, who recently announced his retirement.

"It's tough to leave Doherty, but I think it's the right move," said Krapcha, who came to Colorado Springs in 2013 and turned a six-win Mitchell squad into a 4A playoff squad in his only season there before heading to Doherty. "I don't know about elevating the program, but it's more about continuing what John has already built. I can bring a skill set and work ethic to make the Eaglecrest community proud."

Under Krapcha, Doherty won 42 games over the past two seasons, including 23 of 24 games in the 5A Colorado Springs Metro League.
