Class 2A Region 8 Tournament
Ellicott 3, Dolores Huerta Prep 3
At Ellicott: Ellicott started fast scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning, and didn’t look back from there.
The No. 4 Thunderhawks will face No. 1 Peyton in the 2A District 8 semifinals Saturday.
Osman Rios and Dorian Quillen had two RBIs each, while sophomore Brandon Merriam had a stellar day on the mound, fanning 10 batters through five innings. Merriam and freshman Clay Sanger combined for a two-hitter in the wind. Sanger struck out four.
Evangelical Christian 13, Simla 3
At ECA: Brad Hartsock hit two doubles and knocked in four runs as No. 3 ECA took down No. 6 Simla in the first round of the 2A District 8 tournament.
The Eagles will face No. 2 Calhan on Saturday in the semifinals.
ECA showed off its speed, stealing 12 bases in the quarterfinal game. Andrew DeRuiter, Charlie Schwinck and Cameron Rawlings stole three bags each.
Daniel Perry, Chansol Park, Schwinck and DeRuiter also had RBIs for ECA.
Perry earned the win on the mound striking out five batters through three innings. Benjamin and Andrew DeRuiter split the work from there, fanning three each. Andrew struck out all three of his batters faced in 11 pitches.
4A Region 2 Tournament
Air Academy placed second in the 4A Region 2 tournament with a team score of 286, but it was Isabell Deak’s day on the course, winning the Region 2 title with a score of 84.
Ashlee Sample of Palmer Ridge placed second just four strokes behind Deak.
Palmer Ridge took third (306) followed by Lewis-Palmer (331) in fourth, and Falcon (333) in fifth.
Air Academy’s Paige Langum (9th, 100) and Maddie Mossman (10th, 102) rounded out the top 10, while Lewis-Palmer’s Kalai Hamlin placed 11th with a score of 103.
Mackenzie Rodgers of Falcon placed 12th, shooting 106, tied with Air Academy’s Taylor Martinez. Vista Ridge’s Keagan Wederski was the Wolves’ top performer, placing 14th with a score of 108.
3A Region 1 Tournament
The Classical Academy won its first regional title with a team score of 271, beating out Alamosa by just three strokes.
Colorado Springs Christian placed eighth with a team score of 353, followed by Manitou Springs in 12th (394).
TCA’s Kenzie Fontana shot a 76 for second place and a TCA tournament score school record. Jules DeLeon followed in 11th (93) place and Anna Connell placed 18th (102) as all three qualified for the 3A state meet.
Leanne Telle of CSCS placed sixth with a score of 87 to qualify for state.
