After being held to fewer than 10 points in each of the first three quarters of Tuesday's 5A Colorado Springs Metro league game against Doherty, the Pine Creek girls basketball team found its footing in the fourth, outscoring the Spartans 13-5 to force overtime.

But Doherty, which is ranked top in Class 5A in the Gazette Preps Pikes Peak rankings, outlasted the Eagles 41-35 to remain undefeated in league play.

Pine Creek (4-5, 1-1) was led by senior Elaena Murdock, who racked up a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Doherty (10-3, 3-0) was led by Brionna Mcbride with 14 points, followed by Unique Gainey, who also had a double-double on the night with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Mcbride had seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.


Manitou Springs 66, Ellicott 40

At Ellicott: Cole Sienknecht hit four 3-pointers and scored 28 points for the second consecutive game to lift the Mustangs to their third victory in four tries.

Manitou Springs (6-4) were ahead 30-26 before busting out a 20-8 third quarter and holding Ellicott (2-6) to just 14 points in the second half.

Liberty 69, Palmer 51

At Liberty: Moz Doria had 22 points and Sean Bohuslavsky added 18 points as the Lancers put the game away with a 24-12 third quarter in the Class 5A Colorado Springs Metro League contest.

Kyle Bohuslavsky also added 12 for Liberty (9-3, 2-1), which boasted a 37-21 halftime advantage over Palmer (6-7, 0-2).

Fountain-Fort Carson 67, Rampart 63

At Rampart: Rashon Barron led with 15 points and Keyshawn Maltbia added 12 as the Trojans erased an early 20-12 lead to escape with the CSML win.

James Sanders and Mike Burton scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Fountain-Fort Carson (3-8, 2-1), which had a 21-15 fourth quarter.

The Rams (7-4, 0-1) have lost two straight games.

Doherty 56, Pine Creek 34

At Pine Creek: Kyrele Benford led with 17 points and Joshua Walker made 3 of 3 from long range to finish with 14 points as the Spartans went on to extend their winning streak to seven games.

Alijah Bates also added 13 points for Doherty (10-2, 3-0 CSML), which put the game out of reach with a 19-6 fourth quarter.

Pine Creek (4-4, 1-1) snapped a two-game winning streak.

Mesa Ridge 73, Widefield 63

At Mesa Ridge: The Grizzlies had four scorers reach double figures in a 4A CSML rivalry win over Widefield.

Mesa Ridge senior Deven Nelson had his best shooting night of the season as he racked up 21 points shooting 62 percent from the field. DJ Kine and Adonis Wallace each had 16 points for the Grizzlies (5-4, 2-0) and Devon Ricketts had 12.

With the loss Widefield is now 6-2, and 1-2 in 4A CSML play.


Liberty 55, Palmer 29

At Palmer: The Lancers jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in the 5A CSML game.

Liberty (8-3, 2-1) has won four of its past five games.

Sanee' Cates scored a team-high 16 points for the Terrors (3-10, 0-2).

Fountain-Fort Carson 63, Rampart 46

At F-FC: Teyanna Norris led with 14 points and Samiyah Worrell and Taryn Lindsey chipped in 12 and 10, respectively, as the Trojans gradually expanded on a 30-27 halftime lead in the 5A CSML contest.

F-FC (6-5, 2-1) outscored the Rams 15-8 and 18-11 in the second half.

Rampart (3-7, 0-1) has suffered five straight losses.

Sierra 54, Woodland Park 41

At Woodland Park: D' Nae Wilson scored 15 points, and Azaria Lacour and Queen Williams scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, as the Stallions jumped to a 13-8 lead early in the 4A CSML matchup.

Sierra (6-4, 2-1) has captured four of its past five games.

Delaney Battin scored a team-high 10 points for Woodland Park (4-5, 1-1), which has dropped three of its past four.


Rampart 157, Doherty 120

At Rampart: The Rams captured the top two spots in seven events in the dual meet win.

Lindsey Immel had a standout performance in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 5:34.6 -- about 45 seconds faster than second-place finisher and teammate Olivia Hollinger.

Doherty won five events.

Liberty 97, Fountain-Fort Carson 78

At Liberty: Maya Jabbour (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle) and Grace McCrary (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle) each won two events to lead Liberty past Fountain-Fort Carson in the dual meet.

The Lancers also swept the 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays.

Pine Creek 110, Coronado 75

At Coronado: Dominque Cos (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke), Kennedy Terry (100 freestyle, 200 freestyle) and Sara Conroy (500 freestyle, 100 backstroke) each won two events to lift Pine Creek in the dual meet.

Coronado's Mia Shaeffer won the 50 freestyle (26.09) and aided the Cougar's 200 freestyle relay team to a first-place finish (1:49.63). Coronado also claimed the 200 medley relay in 2:06.27.

Pine Creek's Erin Esty set a new pool record with her first-place finish in the 1-meter dive, securing a 239.45 final score.


Resurrection Christian 11, Cheyenne Mountain 1

At Honnen Ice Arena: The Indians allowed all 11 goals in the first two periods as Resurrection Christian (5-1) had six different scorers.

Trevor Taylor scored the lone goal for Cheyenne Mountain (2-8).

Pueblo County 5, Lewis-Palmer 0

At Pueblo Plaza Ice Arena: The Rangers (1-7-1) allowed all five goals in the final two periods and haven't won a game since Dec. 5.

Pueblo County (6-1) has captured three straight wins.
