Colorado Springs basketball players dazzle on final day of The Show



Doherty 65, Pine Creek 53

At Pine Creek: The Eagles owned a two-point advantage headed back to the home locker room at halftime, but Doherty (16-3) used a 20-11 advantage in the third quarter to take control and move to 9-0 in Colorado Springs Metro League play.

DeMarious Carey hit 13 of 15 free throws to lead the Spartans with 26 points, while Kyrele Benford added 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Liberty 61, Palmer 43

At Palmer: Senior Moz Doria hit four 3-pointers and led the Lancers (14-5, 6-3) to a league win with 16 points, while Jacob Burns added 10.

Palmer (6-13, 0-8) got eight points from Darien Meyers.


Doherty 62, Pine Creek 39

At Doherty: The Spartans expanded a nine-point halftime led to double figures with a 24-9 advantage in the third quarter, improving to a perfect 9-0 in the CSML.

Seniors Mykiaa Minniss and Unique Gainey led the Spartans with 17 and 16 points, respectively, and combined to hit 13 of their 16 shots. Minniss added five rebounds and three assists.

Bri Bailey hit 7 of 12 from the field to lead Pine Creek (9-10, 4-4) with 17 points.

Liberty 66, Palmer 39

At Liberty: The Lancers jumped out to a 16-2 lead after the first quarter of the Colorado Springs Metro League contest and hardly looked back.

Phylicia Bacon and Jayda Lyon led Liberty (14-5, 6-3) with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Palmer (3-16, 0-8) got 13 points from junior Sanee’ Cates.

Ellicott 59, Fountain Valley 33

At Fountain Valley: The Thunderhawks (12-3) improved to 4-0 in league play with a win at Fountain Valley.

Tilly Rahm led the Danes (3-9, 1-6) with 19 points, including four 3-pointers.

St. Mary’s 75, James Irwin 31

At St. Mary’s: The Pirates exploded for 29 points in the second quarter, while holding James Irwin to a single point in the period, as St. Mary’s (14-0, 8-0) remained perfect.

Sophomore Seneca Hackley hit a pair of 3-pointers and led four Pirates in double figures with 25 points.

Krystina Hagood led the Jaguars (3-12, 2-7) with 21 points.


Kent Denver 8, Air Academy 0

At DU-Joy Burns: Kent Denver blew the game open with six goals in the opening period.

The Sun Devils owned an 35-15 advantage in shots and prevented the Kadets from scoring on their two power-play attempts.

Air Academy dropped to 4-14 on the year and 2-12 in the Pinnacle Conference.

Coronado 11, Palmer 2At Sertich: The Cougars scored at least three goals in each period to improve to 6-9 on the season.Cole Brooker finished with four goals and two assists for Coronado, and Trevor Gordon added one score and three assists.Zack Swain and Brandon Herd scored for Palmer (1-13).


Cheyenne Mountain 48, Mesa Ridge 26

At Cheyenne Mountain: Each of the victorious Indians won via pin, including Luke Antonia's win in 1 minute, 35 seconds at 132 pounds.

The Grizzlies got six points from Jared Volcic’s pin at 195, and Dominick Fini earned a 10-1 major decision over Deonte Bridges in a rematch of a 2017 state semifinal at 220.
