Colorado Springs basketball players dazzle on final day of The Show



Fountain-Fort Carson 56, Pine Creek 46

At Pine Creek: James Sanders scored 11 points and Rashon Barron chipped in 10 as the Trojans had a balanced offensive attack to pull away from a 27-27 halftime tie in the Class 5A Colorado Springs Metro League game.

Six others scored for Fountain-Fort Carson (8-10, 5-2), which outscored Pine Creek 17-7 in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles (8-9, 3-4) lost for the first time in four games.

The Vanguard School 72, St. Mary's 67

At The Vanguard School: The Coursers jumped to a 19-11 lead before holding off the Pirates in the fourth quarter to stay unbeaten in the Class 3A Tri-Peaks League.

Seth Fuqua finished with a game-high 29 points for The Vanguard School (13-1, 7-0), and teammates Dominque Clifford and Tyler Wheeler-Temple had 17 and 11, respectively.

Gabe Calhoun led the Pirates (6-8, 5-2) with 16 points as Camden Raedel and Draven Hackley added 14 apiece.

Simla 66, Fountain Valley 49

At Fountain Valley: The Danes fell behind 28-22 at halftime before Simla (9-3, 3-0) produced a 25-15 fourth quarter to seal the win in Class 2A District 8 League action.

Fountain Valley (3-7, 0-4) has won one game in the last seven tries.

ECA 66, Dolores Huerta Prep 51

At Evangelical Christian Academy: Justin Holt tied a season-best 23 points, Oscar Zhou added 12 points and the Eagles exploded for a 24-7 fourth quarter to put the Scorpions away in a Class 2A District 8 League matchup.

Braydon Hekkers knocked in two 3-pointers to finish with 11 point for ECA (8-4, 3-1).

Dolores Huerta Prep (9-5, 1-2) was on a three-game winning streak before falling to the Eagles.

Lewis-Palmer 72, Erie 48

At Erie: The Rangers (15-2) have won two straight after a loss to Palmer Ridge earlier in the week.

Joel Scott led Lewis-Palmer with 21 points, followed by Matthew Ragsdale's 20.

Alex Mathis had 10 points for Erie (8-9).

James Irwin 52, Trinidad 35

At James Irwin: The Jaguars (3-11, 2-5) snapped a five-game slide on Nathaniel Plaisted's 26-point performance as Tavi Mulitauopele added 13 in the 3A TPL contest.

Trinidad (2-12, 0-7) has not won a game since mid-December.


Rampart 56, Sand Creek 44

At Rampart: Madi Wriedt led with 19 points, and the Rams used a 20-6 outburst in the first quarter to hold off Sand Creek (9-8).

The Rams (7-9) have won three straight games after enduring a 1-7 losing stretch.

Simla 56, Fountain Valley 24

At Fountain Valley: Tilly Rahm had a team-high 10 points as the Danes produced only one double-digit scoring quarter in the Class 2A Black Forest League loss.

Simla (11-1, 3-0) has won three straight, while Fountain Valley (3-6, 1-3) has dropped three in a row.

Mesa Ridge 65, Canon City 48

At Mesa Ridge: Ashley Bowen and Serin Dunne each scored a team-high 16 points and Chloe Welch added nine as the Grizzlies took control after an 18-8 first quarter to stay atop the Class 4A Colorado Springs Metro League standings.

Dunne also knocked in a pair of 3-pointers for Mesa Ridge (13-2, 9-0).

Canon City (6-9, 4-4) suffered its second straight loss.

Lamar 56, Manitou Springs 33

At Lamar: Defending Class 3A state champion Lamar jumped to a slow start but put up a 15-9 second quarter to stay ahead in the Class 3A Tri-Peaks League game.

The Mustangs (6-7, 3-3) have dropped three of their last four games.

Lamar (11-3, 5-2) bounced back from a 32-28 loss to Colorado Springs Christian School on Friday. It was a rematch of last year's state title game, in which Lamar prevailed.

ECA 58, Dolores Huerta Prep 41

At Evangelical Christian Academy: Sarah Yacovoni had a game-high 21 points on two 3-pointers, Elizabeth Bristow chipped 16 and the Eagles outlasted the Scorpions (4-8, 0-3) with a 16-7 fourth quarter in the Black Forest League contest.

ECA (3-9, 2-3) has won two of its last three games.

St. Mary's 70, The Vanguard School 30

At St. Mary's: The Pirates (13-0, 6-0)  put up a 30-5 first quarter in the 3A TPL game.

The Coursers (8-5, 3-4) had a two-game winning streak snapped.

Trinidad 53, James Irwin 29

At James Irwin: Krystina Hagood led her team's offensive attack with 14 points but the Jaguars (3-10, 2-5) couldn't overcome a 15-7 first quarter deficit in the 3A TPL game against Trinidad (5-10, 2-5).


Lewis-Palmer Diving Invitational

At Lewis-Palmer: Lewis-Palmer dominated the meet by placing three divers in the top five.

Savana Trueb won with 539.75 points, followed by runner-up and teammate Anna Kemper's 520.25. Rampart's Gabrielle Peltier (453.6) and Lewis-Palmer's Ashlyn Foster (451.6) and Rampart's Maggie Buckley (436.95) placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively.


Discovery Canyon Duals

At Discovery Canyon: The Thunder went 3-2, beating Northridge 65-12, Pueblo Central 56-15 and Cherry Creek 46-23.

Discovery lost to Chapparral 42-31 and Montrose 42-36.

David Biddy went 5-0 at 160 pounds with three pins and one major decision for the Thunder, while teammate Jared Turner finished 4-0 with four pins at 132. Patrick Allis (120) completed a 3-0 run with two pins and Jaden Porreco (126) ended up with a 3-0 record with a pin and a technical fall win.

Thomas Jefferson Invitational

At Thomas Jefferson in Denver: Elijah Valdez (152), Dominick Fini (220) and Mike True (285) each won their respective weight classes for Mesa Ridge, while Jared Volcic (195) placed second.

Mesa Ridge's Malachi Chambers (138) and Isaac McKinney (113) both took home third.

Wrestling Quad at James Irwin

At James Irwin: The Classical Academy finished 3-0 after beating Colorado Springs Christian School 54-17, James Irwin 64-15 and Manitou Springs 59-24. The wins were led by 113-pound wrestler Aidan Johnston, who finished unbeaten with two technical falls and a pin to improve to 23-6 this season.

James Irwin went 1-2 with Brad Lohse (132) finishing the day with two pins.


Aspen 6, Doherty 2

At Honnen Ice Arena: The Spartans fell behind 3-1 in the second period and couldn't overcome the deficit against Aspen (8-2-3).

Austin Vatland and Scott Sellers each knocked in a goal for Doherty (0-14).
