CSCS volleyball star Broekhuis gets national recognition
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Less than a week into her first college semester at Nebraska, Morgan Broekhuis already is having a great time.
Adding to the excitement for the Colorado Springs Christian School graduate was being named the ESPN RISE Volleyball Player of the Year on Friday.

“Awards like that are exciting, but they’re not why I play volleyball,” the 6-foot-5 Broekhuis said Saturday by phone.

The three-time Gazette 3A-A Player of the Year, recorded 465 kills and 411 assists while leading CSCS to a 30-0 record and a sixth straight Class 3A state title.
The Cornhuskers don’t officially start practice for another few weeks, but Broekhuis has hit the ground running, taking part in conditioning drills with her new teammates.
“I started classes on Monday, so I have one week under my belt,” she said. “So far it’s been really good. Here at Nebraska they just take care of you so well and make you feel at home, and the girls have been really great.
“So I think I might like it here in Lincoln.”
