Last season: 22nd at 5A meet
Coach: Nicole Hart, fourth year
Returning state qualifiers: Sarah James, sr., 100 backstroke (2nd) and 200 individual medley (19th).
Outlook: The Spartans, who also qualified their 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams for last year’s state meet, hope to have all three relays qualify for state in 2013. James was runner-up to multiple-time Olympic champion Missy Franklin in the 100 backstroke at last year’s 5A state meet.
Last season: 4th at 5A meet
Coach: Alan Arata, third year
Returning state qualifiers: Karin Roh, sr., 200 freestyle (10th), 100 free (7th); Olga Britton, jr., 200 IM (29th), 100 butterfly (19th); Shannon Babcock, sr., 200 IM (31st), 100 back (33rd); Hanna Hartel, soph., 100 fly (31st), 100 back (48th); Katie Roh, soph., 100 back (32nd); and Rachel Kriete, jr., 100 back (36th)
Outlook: The Rangers are locked and loaded for another run at the best in 5A and get even better with touted freshman Andie Turner, a Western zone champion who could qualify for state in two events.
Last season: Did not score at 5A meet
Coach: Erik Richardson, second year
Returning state qualifiers: Courtney Reed, sr., 50 free (19th), 100 free (24th); Carsen Glass, jr., 100 back (51st), 100 fly (43rd); Caitlin Horner, jr., 50 free (40th); Allyson Naftanel, jr., diving (20th); and Samantha Lenzmeier, jr., 100 breaststroke (40th)
Outlook: Reed, a two-time state qualifier, leads a young but experienced core as the Lancers continue to build under a second-year coach.
Last season: 33rd at 5A meet
Coach: Steve Owsley, 15th year
Returning state qualifiers: Madison Cooper, jr., 200 free (26th); and Anna Conroy, jr., 100 fly (41st).
Outlook: A larger Eagles team continues to build for the future. In the meantime, look for Cooper and Conroy to continue to shine for Pine Creek.
Last season: Did not score at 5A state
Coach: Pat Burch, 11th year
Returning state qualifiers: Carli Snyder, sr., 200 IM (37th), 100 fly (32nd); and Julie Henninger, soph., 100 free (33rd), 100 back (44th).
Outlook: It’s been five years since the Rams were shut out at state, but don’t look for that to continue. Snyder, a two-time state qualifier, leads a young team that’s building for the future. Henninger should reach state in two events again this season.

Last season: 3rd at 4A meet
Coach: Kate Doane, fifth year
Returning state qualifiers: Sydney Buckley, jr., 100 fly (1st), 50 free (9th); Katie Roach, sr., 100 breast (4th), 200 IM (10th); Morgan Wise-Roslin, jr., 500 free (4th), 200 IM (14th); Emily Bauer, jr., 200 free (4th); 100 back (6th); Olivia Gach, sr., 100 free (11th); 50 free (15th); Lexi de la Cruz, sr., 100 free (13th), 50 free (19th); Chloe Buckler, jr., 100 breast (11th); and Alden Lovaas, soph., 200 IM (8th), 100 breast (20th).
Outlook: Eight of the 12 returning state-qualifying swimmers scored points at state last year, giving the Indians depth at just about every discipline. Another year of experience and improvement should take Cheyenne Mountain closer to the top.
Last season: 10th at 4A meet
Coach: Katie Baker, third year
Returning state qualifiers: Allie Jacobs, sr., 200 IM (3rd), 100 fly (7th); Sarah Stafford, soph., 50 free (21st); and Samantha Grosslight, sr., 500 free (27th).

Coach: Lisa Garrelts, fourth year
Returning state qualifiers: Kelsey Oettinger, sr., 200 free (12), 500 free (15th); Lauren Funk, jr., 100 breast (7th); Emily Hand, jr., 200 free (17th), 100 back (15th); Sarah Oldach, sr., 50 free (24th); Stephanie Gutierrez, sr., 50 free (31st), 100 free (18th); Kaydee Valliere, sr., diving (13th); and Emma Plentl, jr., diving (16th)
Outlook: The Thunder continue to make big strides, already a top-10 program in just a handful of years. A strong returning core plus plenty of depth and emerging talent will make Discovery Canyon worthy of rising further up the rankings.
Last season: 27th at 4A meet
Coach: Roy Chaney, fourth year
Returning state qualifiers: Georgia Sinclair, jr., 100 breast (19th)
Outlook: Sinclair barely missed out on a top-16 spot and leads a group of nine returning letter-winners. Freshmen Veronica Morin and Samantha White will impact the team immediately, with Chaney expecting both to qualify for state this season.
Last season: Did not score at 4A state meet
Coach: Melissa Knutson, fourth year
Returning state qualifiers: None.
Outlook: The consolidated team is building and had a strong turnout in numbers. Carmen Mena, a sophomore, and junior Kayle Kuecker are blossoming into potential state qualifiers. The addition of freshmen Jacqui Moran and diver Jamie Quirk gives the team added depth.
