Fountain-Fort Carson's Davis named to Parade All-America team

Kevin Davis has added yet another accolade to his high school football career, and this is the biggest one yet.

The Fountain-Fort Carson senior linebacker will be included as part of the Parade All-America Football Team, which will be included in Sunday's issue. Davis, a 6-foot-3 220-pound linebacker, is one of two from Colorado on the team that includes 53 seniors from around the nation.

"That's insane," said Davis, who first learned the news on Thursday.

In its 49th year, the Parade team is among the oldest and most prestigious honors for high school athletes. Past honorees have included John Elway, Tim Tebow and Herschel Walker. More than a dozen Heisman Trophy winners were Parade All-Americans before heading to college.

Davis, who has verbally committed to Colorado State, made 165 tackles this season with six sacks, four fumble recoveries and an interception. He was also the team's punter and an occasional tight end, helping the Trojans (8-3) to their first playoff victory at the 5A level.

Davis was named The Gazette's 5A/4A Football Player of the Year, was a first-team all-Colorado selection by the Denver Post and will play in the inaugural postseason 2011 West Region All-American Game, as appointed by nationalunderclassmen.com, a recruiting-tool website.

"It is kind of getting overwhelming," Davis said. "I was excited when I made the all-Colorado team, but this is over the top."

Shane Callahan, a 6-foot-6, 285-pound offensive lineman from Chaparral in Parker, was also included on the Parade team. Callahan graduated a semester early and is ready to enroll at Auburn.
