Manitou Springs advances to 3A state semifinals

At Greeley:  Brent Ganger's double allowed Stevie Davis to score from second base, ending the game as the Mustangs prevailed 5-4 over No. 8 seed Gunnison. The Gunnison catcher tagged Davis as he slid by, but the ball was knocked loose, allowing the run to stand and allowing Manitou Springs (18-4) to advance in consolation play.
The No. 4 seed Mustangs routed No. 3 Kent Denver 11-2 to reach the final four for the first time since 2003. It's the first time for coach Rob Quarry.

Manitou Springs 1, Basalt 0 (SO)

At Manitou Springs: Junior goalkeeper Ashley Echeandia made three saves during the shootout, including two in a row to reverse an early No. 11 seed Basalt edge, before the No. 6 Mustangs (13-2-2) prevailed 4-3 in the 3A playoffs.
"That took a big weight off our shoulders, stopping those second and third shooters after missed our first two tries," Manitou Springs coach Matt Barton said.
Kylie Schleicher, Chelsi Lujan, Cassie Marshall and Anna Ballweber all scored for the Mustangs, who travel to No. 3 The Classical Academy (15-1-1) Thursday for a quarterfinal.

At The Classical Academy: The visitors scored only four minutes into the contest to put a scare in the No. 3 Titans.
Shea Haycock then scored the first of three goals only three minutes later on an assist by Ally Young.
"It was a big goal by Shea to answer so quickly and provide a little relief," coach Mike Fox said. ‘She took the game in her hands there."

At Grace Center: The top-seeded Pirates (14-1) in 3A cruised against Evangelical Christian Academy (11-4-1) to reach the 3A quarterfinals.

BOYS' SWIMMING
Lewis-Palmer cruises to CSML team championship

At Cheyenne Mountain: A deep Rangers squad took control early and cruised to the team title at the Colorado Springs Metro League Championships.
Lewis-Palmer freshman Ryan Arata won the 100-yard butterfly, 200 individual medley and swam legs on the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
Cheyenne Mountain junior Pat Scally won the 200 and 500 freestyles and was part of the winning 200 freestyle relay.
Pine Creek's Gregg Hutto won the 50 and 100 freestyles.
TRACK AND FIELD
TCA sweeps 3A Region 1

At Grace: The Classical Academy's Sam Reid swept the girls' 100 and 200-meter dashes while the boys were paced by Ben Hinckfoot's wins in both hurdles.
Ryan Marshall of the Colorado Springs Christian School won the boys' 100, 200 and 400 dashes
