CSCS 2, Denver Christian 1


At Denver Christian: Jonathan Taves scored twice in the first half as the visiting Colorado Springs Christian School (3-0) knocked off the defending 3A state champions.

"Jonathan had a great game, especially on his second goal when he chipped it over (Denver Christian goalkeeper Brendan Roslun)," CSCS assistant Dan Egeler said. "We controlled play the whole game, and just had some tired legs there in the last 5 minutes when they scored."

Michael VanDenBerg scored for Denver Christian (1-2).

Mesa Ridge 3, Fountain Valley 2

At Fountain Valley Tournament: Shea Bogardus made two assists and Mesa Ridge advanced to play the Evangelical Christian Academy.

ECA defeated the Fountain-Fort Carson junior varsity 4-0 in the first round.

James Irwin advanced by defeating Harrison-Sierra 6-1.

Doherty 2, Ralston Valley 0

At Doherty: Jon Anderson and Sean Donelson scored as the Spartans (2-2) rolled past the Mustangs (1-1). Doherty goalkeeper Trevor Simpson made seven saves, while Ralston Valley's Dillon Donaldson made five.

Pikes Peak No. 6 Pine Creek 2, Legacy 1 (2OT)

At Legacy: Zac Wiese scored on a breakaway with 50 seconds remaining in the second overtime to lift the Eagles (2-0) over the Lightning (1-2).

"Zac almost scored in the exact same way in the last minute of regulation, but the keeper saved it," Eagles coach Ben Corley said. "But he finally got it on a rebound from a Zach Davis shot there in the second OT."

Wiese has scored all three of the Eagles' goals this season, while the Pine Creek defense has allowed just one goal.

VOLLEYBALL

No. 7 Lewis Palmer 3, Palmer 0


At Lewis Palmer: Shelbi Pitcher logged six aces, 14 digs and eight kills as the Rangers (1-1) cruised to a 25-12, 25-20, 25-19 win over the Terrors (1-1). Lewis-Palmer's Kristen Sciacca had 11 kills and four blocks, while Caitlin Dyche recorded 46 assists. The Terrors were led by Tara Gibbs with six kills and Nicole Schmidt with five kills and nine digs.

TCA 3, Florence 0

At Florence: Senior Kerri Taylor had 14 kills and five aces to lead The Classical Academy (1-0). Junior setter Lauren Alejo recorded 28 assists.

"We just were really strong with passing and setting tonight, and that definitely was the difference," TCA coach Lori Alejo said. "I think the girls were just really happy to stop practicing and get out of our gym and have an actual match under our belts."

No. 4 Rampart 3, Highlands Ranch 0

At Rampart: Lauren Yoder's 13 kills and Nikki Kinzer's 12 helped the Rams (2-1) to hand the Falcons (6-1) their first loss - a 25-19, 25-17, 25-22 setback.

Senior setter Alex Tanner had 32 assists.
