Rampart wins 5A Region 4

At Columbine: The No. 5 seed Rams (22-4) won all three matches, including a 25-23, 25-22, 25-14 win over No. 4 Columbine in the 5A Region D championship.
That win came after sweeping Smoky Hill, which beat Rampart in five games during the regular season, 25-15-25-20, 25-23 and a four-game win over Rocky Mountain, 25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 25-10.
"We scrambled a little more against Rocky Mountain," Rams coach Keith Barnett said. "They were scrappy and kept us off balance."
"Once we got to the championship against Columbine our girls just wanted it. It was all about seeing themselves with that regional championship."
Setter Alex Tanner made 125 assists in three matches.
Doherty rallies to advance
At Grandview: The Spartans bounced back from a three-game sweep at the hands of Fort Collins to beat ThunderRidge and host Grandview to force a tiebreaker with Fort Collins for second place. Doherty (21-5) won that extra game 25-19 to claim second behind Grandview, which won on a tiebreaker, and advance to Friday's 5A state tournament.
"We did it the hard way for sure," said Doherty coach Julie Ortiz. "We went from playing our worst volleyball to our best volleyball."
Cheyenne Mountain cruises
At Cheyenne Mountain: The Indians (25-1) may be peaking at the right time, sweeping all three opponents to claim the 4A Region A Tournament title.
"I thought we played better than we did in districts," coach David Barkley said. "I'd like to think it's because we're peaking at the right time. Skyline was a good team and they pushed us."
TCA wins 3A region title
At The Classical Academy: The Classical Academy (22-3) defeated Bayfield 19-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-17 to clinch the 3A Region D championship and berth in Friday's state tournament.
With Bayfield's loss, University of Greeley placed second.
"It was do or die for them as well," TCA coach Lori Alejo said of Bayfield. "It was a really fun day with a lot of hard-fought matches."
Kerri Taylor led the team up front while setter Lauren Alejo set a personal best with 53 assists against Colorado Academy.
Pirates, Panthers fall short
At Bayfield: The No. 10 seed Pirates (17-9) lost their first two matches at 3A Region B.
In 4A at Berthoud, Woodland Park (17-10) went 1-2, ending its state bid.
