The Lions won their sixth straight 3A title Saturday, second best in Colorado history, by sweeping Valley. Morgan Broekhuis was named MVP for the third straight year after accumulating 18 kills in the finals. She finished the five-game state-tournament run with 97 kills, 74 assists and 45 digs. The championship game was marked by exceptional play by all, said coach Mike Broekhuis. Sophomore Summer Greager got the ball rolling with four kills in first game. Junior Lauren Santarelli stepped up her defense with seven total blocks in the match. The back row of Ashley Peak, Katie Maquire and Hannah Walker refused to let the ball hit the floor, each accumulating double digits in digs. Brianne Vande Griend complemented Broekhuis at the net with 14 kills. The Lions will take a 54-match winning streak into next season.
