Fountain-Fort Carson 64, Pikes Peak No. 8 Palmer 51

At Pikes Peak Tip Off Classic: Fountain-Fort Carson (1-1) jumped out to a 21-7 lead and never trailed in this consolation bracket game.

"You can't spot a team that is pretty good that kind of lead," Terrors coach Jimmy Grantz said.

Marcus Thomas scored 20 points to lead the Trojans past the Terrors (0-2), who were led by Zach Hawkins' 20 points.


No. 1 Doherty 69, No. 5 Mitchell 55

At Pikes Peak Tip Off Classic: Manny Sisnero scored 16 and Tyler Velasquez 14 as the Spartans (2-0) advance to tonight's 8 p.m. championship game against Littleton, which beat No. 2 Sierra 46-43.

Zach Sims scored 23 for Mitchell (1-1), including nine in the fourth when the game was well in hand.


Colorado Springs School 98, Dolores Huerta 53

At Trinidad Invitational: DeLovelle Earls recorded 25 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and four blocks to lead the 2A Kodiaks (1-0).


GIRLS BASKETBALL

No. 3 Doherty 39, Ralston Valley 36

At Pikes Peak Tip Off Classic: Doherty (1-1) overcame poor shooting (32.1 percent) behind 14 points and nine rebounds from Leah Richardson. Taylor Simpson added eight points and eight blocks.


No. 7 Widefield 76, Thomas Jefferson 23

At Widefield: Mindi Church scored 23 points to lead the Gladiators (2-0).


Douglas County 67, No. 2 Sierra 61

At Pikes Peak Tip Off Classic: Sierra's supporting cast managed only 15 points as Chelsea Rotondo and Janeesa "Chucky" Jeffery combined for 46 points, 25 and 21 respectively, in the semifinal loss to the 5A Huskies (3-0).


Loveland 68, Palmer 63

At Pikes Peak Tip Off Classic: Loveland shot 78 percent from the field to cruise to the consolation win.

"We have to get better defensively," Palmer coach Dave Shackelford said.


SPIRIT CHAMPIONSHIPS

A number of area teams will compete in the Class 5A-2A state spirit championships today through Saturday at the Denver Coliseum. Area teams competing in cheer, coed, jazz and pom are: Air Academy, Calhan, Cañon City, The Classical Academy, Colorado Springs Christian School, Coronado, Cripple Creek-Victor, Doherty, Ellicott, Falcon, Florence, Fountain-Fort Carson, James Irwin, Lewis-Palmer, Liberty, Manitou Springs, Mitchell, Palmer, Pine Creek, Sierra, St. Mary's and Vista Ridge.
