This week's Peak Performer: Mark Jones, Doherty
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Mark Jones was worn out after a 16-point win Saturday against Gateway in the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs.
“We had a real hard practice the day before,” Jones said. “That game was real rough from beginning to end. They were making sure that every foul counted.”
The senior point guard went 20-for-24 from the free-throw line to help send the Spartans (15-9) to their fourth straight trip to the round of 16, where they will face Lincoln today.
Coach Dan McKiernan said the leadership of Jones, who is averaging 11 points and four assists, has carried the Spartans.
“He is very much a coach on the floor,” McKiernan said. “He has been in our program, and understands our system. He does a great job of running it.”
