CSCS 3, No. 8 Air Academy 2
At Colorado Springs Christian School: Junior Michael Gills scored the game-winner in the 57th minute for the Lions (2-0).\
"Garrett Blair worked his heinie off for that goal," said Lions coach Tim Egeler. "We won the game because of hard work."
Sophomore Daniel Broas scored twice to put the Lions up 2-0 on the Kadets (1-1), which proved critical, Egeler said.
"We were playing a giant, a 5A school and we're a 3A," he said. "One of the keys before the game was that we knew we would be taken lightly by them. I told the kids we needed to just jump on them and see if we could surprise them. That's what we did."
Mitchell 3, No. 5 Doherty 2
At Mitchell: Junor Jacob Reasland scored his second goal of the game with 3:18 left to lift the 4A Marauders (1-1) past the 5A Spartans (1-2). Doherty tied the game only four minutes earlier.
On the game-winner, Reasland collected the ball at midfield and dribbled past two defenders into the Doherty zone. His hard shot caromed off a Spartans defender and into the net, said Mitchell coach Tom Mourning.
