THE GAZETTE

No. 2 Palmer (0-0-1) at No. 1 Doherty (0-1) , 7 p.m. Friday (Garry Berry)

This one should be entertaining with a Spartans defense that gave up 41 points at Chaparral last week facing a potent Palmer offense that scored 28 in three quarters in a tie with No. 3 Sierra.

No. 3 Sierra (0-0-1) at Lewis-Palmer (0-1), 7 p.m. Friday

The Rangers will have their hands full trying to slow down the 4A Foothills-contending Stallions' offense, led by quarterback Latrell Burrows and receiver Kelby Dias.

Rock Canyon (1-0) at No. 4 Fountain-Fort Carson (2-0), 7 p.m. Friday

The Jaguars, who moved up to 4A this fall, will see how they match up with perennial Pikes Peak power Fountain-Fort Carson, led by tailback Quinton Lawson.

No. 6 Rampart (0-1) at Highlands Ranch (1-0), 7 tonight

The Rams' tough 5A initiation continues against the Falcons. Rampart needs to put together 48 strong minutes after a being shut out at home in the second half last week.

No. 7 Liberty (1-0) at No. 5 Pine Creek (1-0), 7 p.m. Friday (Liberty HS)

The Lancers, riding high off a Week 1 win thanks to the arm of QB Marcus Warren, continue their D-20 rivalry against the Pikes Peak contending Eagles, led by versatile Josh Chance.

No. 8 Cheyenne Mountain (1-0) at No. 10 Air Academy (0-1), 7 tonight (K-Dome)

This could be a low-scoring affair since the teams combined for 14 points last week, with the Indians defense shutting out Coronado for the really old-school winning score of 7-0.

No. 9 Sand Creek (1-0) at Widefield (0-1), 7 p.m. Friday (C.A. Foster)

The newly 4A Scorpions have to be riding high thanks to a stout defense that stymied Lewis-Palmer on three fourth-down attempts.

Best of the Rest

Alamosa (1-0) at Falcon (2-0), 7 p.m. Friday

Two early 3A Southern Conference title contenders square off in a game that could decide a playoff berth.

Two area rivals square off in an important 2A Tri-Peaks Conference opener.
Cañon City (1-0) at Coronado (0-1), 7 p.m. Saturday (Garry Berry)
