THE GAZETTE

No. 1 Doherty (1-1) at Douglas County (0-2), 7 p.m. Friday

Jesse Tuttle and Jaden Terry give Doherty a thunder-and-lightning running attack. Beau Kelly and Matt Oesterle lead the defense.

No. 2 Fountain-Fort Carson (3-0) at Mitchell (0-2), 1 p.m. Saturday (Garry Berry)

Look for Quinton Lawson and Devyn Harris, who has made an oral commitment to play football at Wyoming, to lead the Trojans' rushing attack, which has amassed 852 yards.

No. 9 Cheyenne Mountain (1-1) at No. 3 Sierra (1-0-1), 7 p.m. Friday

Sierra's defense hasn't been impressive, giving up 57 points in two games. But the Indians might not have enough offensive firepower to take advantage beyond QB Peter Perdue.

Ponderosa (1-1) at No. 4 Palmer (0-1-1), 7:30 p.m. Friday (Garry Berry)

Quarterback Andre Brown, who is back after getting knocked out of the Doherty loss, gives the Terrors a puncher's chance.

Rock Canyon (1-1) at No. 5 Pine Creek (2-0), 7 p.m. Friday (Liberty HS)

The Eagles' pass defense will be tested. See full preview for more details.

ThunderRidge (2-0) at No. 6 Rampart (0-2), 7 p.m. Saturday (Liberty HS)

Two programs moving up to Class 5A this fall meet. Quarterback Zane Watkins and RB Devin Mohn lead the Rams.

Coronado (0-2) at No. 7 Sand Creek (2-0), 7 p.m. Friday

The Gazette's online contest winner features a stout Scorpions defense (19 points allowed) against a Cougars squad that has yet to score.

No. 8 Air Academy (1-1) at Wasson (1-1), 4 p.m. Friday (Garry Berry)

This could be decided by which defense can contain talented running backs with the Kadets' Ryan Burton on one side and Tanner Hidrogo for the Thunderbirds.

Pueblo South (2-0) at No. 10 Liberty (1-1), 7 tonight

It could be a long night if the Lancers are unable to protect quarterback Markus Warren.

BEST OF THE REST

Lewis-Palmer (0-2) at Mesa Ridge (1-1), 7 p.m. Saturday

The Rangers will try to contain sophomore tailback Phillip Rhodes, who ran for 272 yards against Mitchell in Week 1.

Manitou Springs (1-1) at Trinidad (1-1), 7 p.m. Friday

Alex Reiter, an all-2A Tri-Peaks tailback last fall, has proven to be a capable quarterback (392 yards passing) with Dan Gieck as his favorite target.

Cañon City (2-0) at Woodland Park (1-1), 7 p.m. Friday

This game's outcome could swing on how many Panthers are unable to play because of mononucleosis. Only one player has been diagnosed so far, athletic director Brian Gustafson said.
