Fountain Valley could face Regis in second round of hockey playoffs
Fountain Valley won the Peak Conference with a stellar 13-1 conference record.
The Danes reward? A possible second-round matchup with defending champ and perennial power Regis Jesuit, which has won three of the last five state championships, going back-to-back in 2008-09.
The Danes will host the first two rounds of the playoffs at Sertich Ice Center in Colorado Springs. Fountain Valley (15-4 overall) opens the playoffs Friday against Chatfield (8-10-1), which finished eighth in the Foothills Conference.
Air Academy (13-4-1) finished third in conference and will travel to take on Foothills No. 6 Mullen (10-8-1). No. 2 Monarch (16-1-2) is the host site for that region and will take on No. 7 Lewis-Palmer (10-8-1) in a first-round matchup.
No. 6 Doherty (13-6) travels north to take on No. 3 Resurrection Christian (14-3-2) at the region hosted by Peak Conference No. 2 Mountain Vista.
All playoffs start Friday and continue through Saturday. Winners at each of the four sites advance to the semifinals at the University of Denver's Magness Arena on Feb. 28.
