At All-City Field, Denver: Grand Junction spoiled Lewis-Palmer's second chance at a state regional berth, scoring 13 unanswered after the Rangers (13-7) went ahead 3-0 after hits by Randy Viera and Steven Leonard.
GIRLS SOCCER
St. Mary's 6, Front Range Christian 2
At Grace Center: The host Pirates set up a 3A quarterfinal game against rival Colorado Springs Christian School at 7 p.m. Saturday after rallying to down Front Range Christian. "We made some adjustments in the second half," said St. Mary's coach Gregg Braha. "I thought we were telegraphing our passes a bit so we played with more subtlety and all of a sudden things started dropping." All four second-half goals were scored in a five-minute span.
CSCS 3, Resurrection Christian 1
At Resurrection Christian: Reade Tilman and Lauren Hammerstrom scored about a minute apart as the visiting Lions (13-3-1) rallied for a first-round win in the 3A state playoffs. "They snuck in an unexpected goal but we knew early on we were the better team," said CSCS coach Stu Davis. "We weren't rattled when they scored."
Durango 2, Rampart 1
At Durango: Goals by Durango's Katerina Garcia and Becca Kyle ended the Rams' season at 12-3-1 with a road loss in the first round of the 5A state playoffs.
Legacy 2, Pine Creek 0
At Legacy: Sara Palizzi and Mara Cosgrove scored to lead Legacy (10-4-2) past Pine Creek (10-5-1) in the 5A playoffs. "They out muscled us in the first 20 minutes and it took us a while to adjust to that," said Eagles coach John Frederick said. The Eagles allowed only nine goals this season, a new school record, he added.
Wheat Ridge 7, Doherty 0
At Wheat Ridge: Despite eight saves by Olivia Mills, Doherty (9-7) was eliminated from the 5A playoffs. Erica Boyle and Blake Warner each scored twice for the Farmers (13-1-1).
COLLEGE SIGNINGS
Palmer seniors Kylie Berry and Emmalee Fladland will sign national letters of intent to play women's basketball at McCook Community College (Neb.) in a 3:10 p.m. ceremony May 13 at the school's media center. Coronado's Levi Harris signed to play men's basketball at UCCS. Matt Baarts of the Colorado Springs Christian School will join him at the Division II college after a signing ceremony at 2:45 p.m. Friday at CSCS.
