Three area softball teams that were hoping to play next weekend will now have to wait until next season.

Widefield, Liberty and Falcon were all eliminated Saturday in the Region 7 regional at 4 Diamond Sports Complex.

Widefield came the closest to advancing. The 4A Gladiators fell 4-2 to Evergreen in the consolation game and were one win away from state.

“It ended a week early,” Widefield coach Gary Foltz’ said. “It wasn’t the ending we hoped for. It was a great season; it just ended a weekend early.”

The loss had to sting for the Gladiators since Widefield defeated Evergreen 18-4 earlier in the day.

In its second game, Widefield lost 10-5 to Pueblo Central. When Evergreen defeated Falcon it set up the rematch with Widefield.

Falcon lost 12-0 to Pueblo Central in its first game and was eliminated by Evergreen 5-3.

Falcons assistant coach Sean Sloan said Pueblo Central was, “the best team they’d played all year.”

“It was a good season,” Falcon senior Rebecca Mulligan said, “We fought all the way through.”

In 5A, Liberty lost 6-2 to Northglenn.

“We just didn’t score who we had on base,” Liberty coach Astrid Yestness said.

The Lancers lost their second game 16-5 to Loveland.

“We could’ve done better,” Liberty sophomore Sammie Hunt said. “But we’ll work on improving for next year.”
