Liberty (4-3) at Vista Ridge (6-1), 7 p.m. Friday: Liberty is currently 19th in 4A wild-card standings, so it needs to make a move. Here’s the chance. Trouble is, Vista Ridge isn’t likely to budge. With the exception of a loss to Ponderosa, the Wolves have outscored 4A Pikes Peak foes by an average of 36-8. Brayden Stewart’s arm, Brandon Cartagena’s legs and Aaron Johnson’s hands give Vista Ridge offensive balance and the defense has been plain nasty. A Lancers victory would certainly be a surprise, but it could be enough to launch a rivalry between schools about as close in proximity as any others in town.
