Regional volleyball roundup: Doherty, Cheyenne Mountain, Coronado advance
Highlights from Saturday's regional volleyball action involving teams from the Pikes Peak region:

Region 1: Doherty advances
At Doherty: The state’s No. 1 team scarcely broke a sweat, downing No. 36 George Washington 25-17, 25-13, 25-13 and No. 24 Ralston Valley 25-13, 25-15, 25-11.
Haleigh Washington had 20 kills and Mattie Batchelder came up with 18 digs in the two matches for the Spartans (25-0).
Region 3: Liberty eliminated
At Chaparral: No. 34 Liberty (10-15) saw its season end with back-to-back straight-set defeats.
Regional host Chaparral, seeded third, swept both of its matches to advance out of the group of three that also included Fort Collins.
Region 4: Rampart eliminated
At Cherry Creek: No. 4 Cherry Creek worked through No. 21 Rampart 25-16, 27-25, 25-17 to advance to state.
The Rams season ends at 14-10.
Region 11: Pine Creek eliminated
At Legend: No. 11 Heritage topped No. 14 Pine Creek 26-24, 25-18, 25-22 to win the region.
The Eagles (17-8) had topped No. 26 Monarch 25-18, 25-20, 25-11 to set up the do-or-die match for a trip to state.

Region 1: Cheyenne Mountain advances
At Cheyenne Mountain: Four-time defending 4A champion Cheyenne Mountain will get a chance to add to its string of titles.
The top-seeded Indians (21-4) beat No. 36 Canon City 25-16, 25-13, 25-9, then took care of No. 24 Weld Central 25-8, 25-10, 25-15 on Saturday.
Monique Domme had 73 assists in the two matches, with Mara Barkley and Maddie Beal combining for 40 kills.
Region 5: Palmer Ridge eliminated
At Valor Christian: No information was provided, as No. 5 Valor Christian advanced out of the three-team pool.
Region 7: Coronado advances
At Coronado: No. 7 Coronado, last year’s 4A runner-up, will return to state after cruising through Glenwood Springs 22-15, 25-14, 25, 22 and Roosevelt 25-14, 25-20, 25-17.
Erica Lambert had 25 kills in the two matches, with Madison Darby-McClure adding 24.
Serina Nickle had 40 assists for the Cougars (22-3).
Region 9: Falcon eliminated
At Thomas Jefferson: No. 28 Falcon won the first set against No. 16 Mountain View and the second set against No. 9 Thomas Jefferson, but that was all it could muster in a region won by Mountain View.
Falcon (15-9) fell to Thomas Jefferson 25-14, 18-25, 25-17, 25-22 and to Mountain View 19-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-15.
Region 12: Air Academy eliminated
At Ponderosa: No. 13 Air Academy played back-to-back five-set thrillers, ultimately falling to state-qualifier Ponderosa 25-19, 26-28, 18-25, 25-20, 15-12.
The Kadets (19-6) topped No. 25 Palisade 21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-16, 15-8 in the first match of the day.
No. 12 Ponderosa (11-14) topped Palisade in four games before resting during the Air Academy/Palisade match, undoubtedly a contributing factor in the victory along with home-court advantage based on a seed that was one higher than that of the Kadets.
Jordan Pingel had 43 kills in the two matches, with Chelsea Payne adding 33 for Air Academy.
Bryce Schwartz had 108 assists, including 65 against Palisade.

Region 9: TCA eliminated
At Sterling: No. 9 Sterling knocked off No. 16 TCA 26-28, 25-16, 25-20, 20-25, 15-12 to win the region.
The Titans swept No. 28 Clear Creek in their opening match.
