At Smoky Hill: With 10 minutes left, the two-time defending 5A state champions scored on goalie Dillon Shook, who had six saves for Liberty (0-3).
The Lancers had a chance to tie the game with under 2 minutes left when Javier Salome lifted the corner kick to sweeper Patrick Slogic, who drilled the header but Buffaloes goalie Ben Santos made the deflection.
"We dominated the game," Liberty coach Mike Goyden said. "Their keeper had incredible saves. Our last couple games we've outplayed our opponent, but it's been frustrating because we've come up short. Every game outside our league has been a battle."
Mitchell 4, Manitou Springs 3
At Garry Berry: Mitchell's Jacob Reasland scored four goals as the 4A Marauders held on.
"Manitou did a good job coming back and keeping the pressure on us," coach Tom Mourning said. Reasland scored nine goals in three games in five days, including three in a 6-3 loss to Golden on Thursday.
"He's dynamite with the ball," Mourning said.
James Irwin 4, Mesa Ridge 1
At Fountain Valley Tournament: Juan Alvarez scored two goals in the first half and two more in the second to lead James Irwin (3-0) past Mesa Ridge (3-1) in the championship game.
Senior Alex Melbrod scored the lone goal for the Grizzlies (3-1).

TCA girls win St. Vrain invite
At St. Vrain: Kaitlin Hanenburg (18:29) and teammate Shelby Stableford (18:41) finished 1-2 to lead the Titans to the girls team title. Sam Feldotto won the boys individual race (16:16) to lead The Classical Academy to second.
FOOTBALL
Miami-Yoder 61, Wiley 0
At Miami-Yoder: Running back Michael Carl rushed for two touchdowns, caught another and returned a kickoff for a score for the Buffaloes (2-0).
Carl had 104 yards rushing on six carries.
Chris Winstead also rushed for a TD and returned one on a kickoff.
Pikes Peak Christian 54, Cotopaxi 28
At Pikes Peak Christian: Senior tailback Tyler Thorne ran for 264 yards and scored a school-record seven touchdowns for the Eagles (1-1).
Thorne scored three of the TDs in the fourth to help put the game out of reach. He also had 59 yards receiving, as well as a 37-yard fumble return for a TD.

Cañon City 5, St. Mary's 4
At Falcon Invitational: The Tigers (7-4) rallied for three runs in the fifth. Reliever Margo Beaumont shut out St. Mary's (5-2) in the last two innings to clinch the title.
"It's been a crazy tournament," Cañon City coach Mike Ortega said. "We were lucky to come out on top of all the nail-biter games we saw."
Widefield 3, Castle View 1
At Westminster Tournament: Pitcher Krystal Kreitemeyer pitched all seven innings and allowed only one earned run as Widefield won the tournament.
VOLLEYBALL
No. 1 Cheyenne Mountain 2, Smoky Hill 1
At Smoky Hill Classic: The Indians won the championship, beating the hosts 20-25, 25-16, 15-13. Cheyenne Mountain improved to 7-0 on the season with key plays from Laura Brodie up front while Kendall Gaffney was consistent in her hitting.
With its only loss to Cheyenne Mountain, No. 4 Rampart (5-2) placed third by beating Chatfield 25-19, 25-14 behind the defensive play of Heather Sanders, Skylar Lewandowski and Sara Balboa. Nikki Kinzer and Lauren Yoder combined for 56 kills.
