Saturday's roundup: TCA rolls in 3A soccer playoffs, Coronado wins volleyball tourney
Highlights from Saturday's high school sports action in the Pikes Peak region:
3A STATE SOCCER
No. 1 TCA 5, No. 17 Roaring Fork 1
At TCA: Evan Young scored four goals and added an assist as TCA rolled to the quarterfinals.
The Titans led 3-0 at halftime.
Robby Jacobs also scored for TCA.
FOOTBALL
Discovery Canyon 49, Woodland Park 14
At District 20 Stadium: Discovery Canyon gave a rare glimpse of its aerial capabilities, as quarterback Alex Wirtjes completed 6-of-9 passes for 161 yards and four touchdowns.
The Thunder (8-1, 4-0 3A Southern) also ran for 212 yards, marking the eight time they’ve run for at least 200 yards this season.
Woodland Park (3-6) has lost five of its past six games.
Coronado 41, Wasson 0
At Wasson: Sophomore Zeb Foster ran for four touchdowns on just five carries, fellow sophomore Isaha Duvall ran for 130 yards and Coronado forced an early running clock for the second consecutive week.
The Cougars (5-4, 3-1 3A Southern) could send the league into a potential three-way tie if they were to beat Discovery Canyon next week. They would win the league if they beat the Thunder and Lewis-Palmer loses to Woodland Park.
Wasson drops to 1-8, 1-3.
Falcon 27, Liberty 14
At Liberty: Kalen Ballage had touchdowns of 92 and 42 yards as Falcon (7-2, 4-2 4A Pikes Peak) rolled.
Liberty fell to 4-5, 2-4.
VOLLEYBALL
Palmer Ridge Tournament
At Palmer Ridge: Coronado topped Monte Vista, Mullen, Broomfield and Highlands Ranch en route to the tournament title.
Mitchell Tournament
At Mitchell: Elizabeth won the eight-team event.
