Football coach Sassaman, TCA to part ways

THE GAZETTE

The Classical Academy will start its Class 3A football era with a new coach after the school and Nate Sassaman recently parted ways after four years.

“All I can say is that Mr. Sassaman and TCA have made that decision for personal reasons,” said Blake Galvin, TCA activities director who also serves as boys’ and girls’ soccer coach.

Sassaman was hired to run the Titans’ athletic department in 2006 and coached the team the past three seasons, highlighted by the school’s first Class 2A playoff berth in 2008 with a return trip last year. Overall, the Titans were 19-12 in Sassaman’s tenure, including 8-3 marks the past two seasons.

In 2008, Sassaman was named The Gazette Class 3A-A Football Coach of the Year.

“TCA values and appreciates the many years that Coach Sassaman has dedicated to the development of our varsity football program,” Galvin said in a statement e-mailed to The Gazette. “We eagerly anticipate our new head football coach, and we are excited about next season.”

Sassaman was not available for comment.

The search for the Titans’ next coach is under way.
