Peyton defense stumps Sargent

A stifling Peyton defense held the Farmers without a second-half basket until 2:05 remained in Game 1 of the inaugural UCCS Holiday Shootout at the Gallogly Events Center.

“We put so much pressure on most teams, we are pretty tough,” coach Tony Goodman said of his 5-1 Panthers. “Typically teams have one good ballhandler and others who are not as good, and that is when they struggle.”

That pressure led to plenty of transition points for a balanced Peyton attack, paced on Monday afternoon by 13 points from junior Vaden Holmes, who was the fifth different Panther to lead the team in scoring this season. Juniors Robyn Barrett and Shelby Patterson each added 11 points in a rout that was 65-16 with 2:21 left before a late surge by the Farmers (2-2).
