GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Fountain-Fort Carson 52, Palmer 49

At Fountain-Fort Carson: The Trojans hit two 3-pointers in the first minute of play to take control of the Pikes Peak 5A-4A No. 3 Terrors (15-4) from the start.

“We began very, very well,” Fountain-Fort Carson coach Harry Knight said. “We jumped on them early and they were down 8-0 before they knew it.”

D’Shara Strange led the Trojans (15-4) with 19 points, while teammate Renata Rankin added 13. Palmer’s Taylor Torres led all scorers with 27 points.

 

Air Academy 45, Doherty 27

At Doherty: The 5A-4A No. 1 Kadets (18-1) built on a seven-point halftime lead as Sarah Schweiss scored 11 and Miranda Beal added eight. The Spartans (9-11) were led by Kelsey English’s game-high 13 points.

 

Manitou Springs 45, Peyton 39

At Manitou Springs: The Mustangs outscored Peyton 17-5 in the final quarter to erase Peyton’s six-point halftime lead and seal the win. Ann Wilson’s 13 points and Amelia Schofield’s 10 led Manitou Springs (7-10), while Isabell Rocha and Samantha Peterson each scored 10 for Peyton (7-9).

 

Widefield 29, Falcon 27

At Widefield: Behind 12 points from Tazhane McFail and 11 from Raven Cooper-Church, the Gladiators (15-6) held off a fourth-quarter Falcon rally. 5A-4A No. 5 Falcon (14-5) was led by Kiah Hicks’ 10 points.

 

Mesa Ridge 58, Mitchell 46

At Mitchell: Sarah Curby grabbed 11 rebounds and Leanndra Gilbert scored 15 to lead the 5A-4A No. 2 Grizzlies (18-2). Christel Enriquez put in a game-high 19 points for the Marauders (6-13).  

 

Rampart 44, Liberty 42

At Rampart: The Lancers (5-13) outscored the Rams (8-12) by five in the final quarter, but came up just short. Rampart’s Katie Londo and Liberty’s Emma Jacobsen each led their team with 12 points.

 

Hoehne 48, Colorado Springs School 27

At Colorado Springs School: Marissa Quintero scored 10 points and Karly Lindroth-Yates chipped in nine for the Kodiaks (8-7), who couldn’t contain Alyssa Hernandez (12 points) and Stephanie Navarette (10 points) of Hoehne (9-7).

 

Sierra 39, Woodland Park 34

At Woodland Park: Chelsea Barrett scored 14 to lead the Stallions (8-12), while teammate Selina Barnes put in six. Tessie Koziol scored 14 for Woodland Park (4-16).

 

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Rampart 102, Liberty 34

At Liberty: Twelve different Rams scored – including Devon Grant (20 points) and Reuben Riggs-Russell (18 points) – as 5A-4A No. 2 Rampart (19-1) routed Liberty (9-10). Wes McKenzie scored 14 for the Lancers.

 

Lewis-Palmer 79, Wasson 59

At Lewis-Palmer: Led by Josh Scott’s 37 points and Kyle Engelhardt’s 23 points, the 5A-4A No. 3 Rangers (16-4) broke out in the third quarter to outscore the Thunderbirds 26-9. Deven Bernett put in 24 for Wasson (8-9).

 

Mitchell 87, Mesa Ridge 81

At Mesa Ridge: Deontay Galbearth’s 31 points couldn’t lift the Grizzlies (4-16), who couldn’t sustain a third-quarter rally against the Marauders (12-8). Carlos Torres added 17 for Mesa Ridge.  

 

Buena Vista 73, Florence 37

At Florence: Five players scored in double digits for Buena Vista (14-3), including Nolan Baker (18 points). Florence (2-15) was led by 11 points from Spencer Drake.

 

HOCKEY

Standley Lake 4, Rampart 2

At Ice Centre Green: Rampart’s Anthony Apodaca made it a 3-2 game in the third period, but Kenta Young and Kyle Wellborn scored to give Standley Lake (15-3-0) the win. Ian Johnson scored in the first period for No. 1 Rampart (12-4-2).
