Falcon coach and assistant suspended two games for recruiting violation
Falcon football coach Trevor Hudson and assistant Claude Robinson have been suspended for what the school calls an unintentional violation of recruiting rules.
Both missed the Falcons' most recent game while serving the suspension. Hudson will miss this weekend's game and Robinson will be suspended from the first wrestling competition of the season.
Athletic director Randy Hinson sent a release on Wednesday morning, detailing the actions taken for the violation of Colorado High School Activities Association Article 19, Rule 1900.2.
"The coaching suspensions are part of an immediate corrective action plan submitted to CHSAA by Falcon HS to bring about a collective effort to prevent a re-occurrence and request removal of restrictions from the two coaches and the Falcon football program," Hinson wrote.
CHSAA assistant commissioner Bert Borgmann acknowledged on Tuesday that his office was in communication with Falcon over a violation. He said as a course of action CHSAA reviews a school's self-imposed sanctions and determines if the action is an adequate punishment and remedy. If not, restrictions that can include exclusion from the postseason can result. He said there are varying degrees of punishments depending on the severity of the infraction.
The Gazette has not confirmed when a recruiting violation took place. One source has said it occurred on the field after Falcon's Sept. 28 victory over Sand Creek.
Falcon is 6-2 this season and faces a difficult final two games at Liberty on Saturday in the final game of Hudson's suspension before finishing the season at home against District 49 rival Vista Ridge.
A split of the last two games would likely give the Falcons a spot in the 4A playoffs.
The Falcons have a 13-6 record in parts of two seasons under Hudson, which includes last week's 41-6 victory over Air Academy during his suspension.
