State swimming notebook: Coronado's Jacobs places in top 8 twice
Coronado’s Jacobs finishes stellar career
For the second straight year at the 4A state meet, Coronado’s Allie Jacobs returned to swim in the finals of the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle. The senior finished eighth in the individual medley and touched fifth in the 100 free.
Presti leads local diving contigent
Fountain Valley senior Maia Presti finished tops among local divers, placing fifth among 23 divers who qualified for the 4A state meet.
Presti finished third last year and second in 2011.
Discovery Canyon’s Kaydee Valliere, the Pikes Peak Athletic Conference champion, finished seventh.
Impressive debut for Manitou freshman
Veronica Morin, a freshman at Manitou Springs, had a first 4A state meet to remember.
The 15-year-old finished fourth in the 50 free, setting a school record with a time of 24.30 seconds. Swimming in the consolation final of the 100 freestyle, Morin won the race in 54.61, also a school best.
Oettinger completes four-year state run
Discovery Canyon senior Kelsey Oettinger turned in the best finish of local 4A swimmers in the 200 freestyle, placing seventh. Oettinger, who’s headed to Western State, qualified for the 4A state meet all four years.
She also reached state in the 500 freestyle and swam in the consolation final, finishing in fourth place.
