HOCKEY
Heritage 6, Air Academy 5
At Sertich: Air Academy (10-3-1, 8-2 Peak Conference) gave up five consecutive goals, which proved to be one too many, as their third-period rally fell short in a battle of the conference’s top two teams.
Heritage forward Scott Appleby notched two of his three goals and Connor Crory added two more during a four-goal, second-period outburst for the Eagles (13-2, 9-1).
Travis Work, Travis Hinton and Nick Law each scored in the third for the Pikes Peak area No. 3 Kadets. But Air Academy failed to get the game-tying goal.
Heritage moved into sole possession of first place in conference with the win over the Kadets. Air Academy is alone in second.
Doherty 3, Pueblo County 1
At Pueblo Plaza: No. 1 Doherty (11-3, 7-3 Peak Conference) had all its scoring done by the 2:41 mark of the second period and held on for the win.
Brennan Ward scored 1:22 into the first, and Dusty kachel and Jordan Bearrett scored less than 2 minutes apart in the second period to keep the Spartans in the hunt for a league title.
Pueblo County (6-6, 3-6) got its goal from Travis Bever.
Mullen 5, Pine Creek 3
At Sertich: Brady Brehm and Connor Morris scored less than 2 minutes apart to break a 3-3 tie and lead Mullen (8-7) to the win.
